Rear Hatch Lock Won't Turn 2003 VW Golf

The key lock on my 2003 VW Golf will not turn, the key will go all the way in but won’t turn to lock the hatch. The car does not have electric locks, everything is with the key. The key can lock/unlock the front 2 doors so it is in good condition.

The lock cylinder tumblers could be worn.
The lock cylinder could be frozen.
There may be a issue with the linkage.
You might try spraying some lock lube into the key slot and try warming your key and see if that helps.

Thank you for the reply, so my (hopefully) worst case scenario would be that I would replace the lock cylinder? That being if the methods above don’t work.

Providing there are no electronics involved with the locking mechanism.
