Today, I took the car in routinely oil changed, but the shop told me the car 2001 Pathfinder 6 Cylinder needs fuel injector cleaner.

it depends. if they’re just dumping injector cleaner into the fuel tank, it’s not a great value. if they actually pull the injectors and wash them in a dedicated machine and check the spray pattern after, it’s very effective.

Eric has a similar setup for fuel injection cleaning used in this video i linked. It will give you a better idea of what’s involved –

what the shop is going to do is disconnect your fuel line from fuel rail.disable fuel pump.hook up machine with cleaner.start the vehicle and let
idle.the vehicle will now run off the cleaner for 20-30 minutes until it stalls out. what this service does is cleans your injectors inside and out. It
also cleans carbon build up on intake valves +combustion chamber. the way this shop is going to do it is the best way.you should feel a power
difference.your mileage may even go up. if you do this service.after its done I would stick a can of sea foam in your tank to finish cleaning the
entire fuel system.good luck and keep us posted.

              +1 on the above posts.

With the possible exception of Techron concentrate, I think the stuff you pour in the tank is a waste of money. Using a setup like Eric shows in the video is the way to go, many companies make them – OTC, 3M, BG, etc.

To be honest it sounds like an ‘upsell’ to me, those places are famous for that to be honest. I’m not a fan of the stuff you dump in the tank for a variety of reasons, just do a search on ‘fuel injection cleaning’ at the top of this page as I know I’ve gone into that more than once on the forum. That said if you feel your engine could benefit from the service go ahead and do it but I recommend that it’s done with the set up in the video link listed above or equivalent and not something that’s just dumped into a tank.
