Hello, I have a 1997 Honda Prelude stock h22 with a AEM ram air intake, and full greddy exhaust. now when i accelerate after idling after a few minutes, there’s grey smoke and i smell burning oil all the time. I got told it needed a new cam seal, so I got a skunk2 cam seal which I will install sometime next week. I have a CEL code for a Vtec Solenoid Malfunction. No loss of power. It still gets up and goes!

If your burning oil may be rings. How many miles on the motor?
You may want to do a compression test. what code number did you get?

in addition too what college man states check your positive crankcase ventilation system, especially the valve, if the valve get stuck it can cause issues.

If you have a Greddy full exhaust that means no cat. Well, cars without cats are stinky. I ran a test pipe for awhile on the previous car I owned. Same result as yours. Although how bad it is will depend on the condition of the engine. I reinstalled the cat.

I’m trying to make a connection between the cam seal and the exhaust. They sound like separate issues to me.

yea i was thinking that too, cam seals should in no way cause oil burn, and barneyb is right, you remove the catalitic converter there is going to be more exhaust fumes emitted from the exhaust, and its going to look and smell funky.

Okay, the code is P1259. It has 160,000 but supposedly engine rebuild 40k ago. I replaced the pcv and gromet today. Still smoking. I pulled off IAC to clean and there was oil between the IAC and throttle body. it isn’t even dirty at all. Why would it be throwing a code and idling weird? The pcv that was in it had a hose as a grommet btw.
