I’ve begun work fixing up a 94 accord wagon to be my dd. Replaced vss just to get my speedo to work. Then the speedo would intermittantly work, the odo dead but be registering some odd number of miles different from my gps. Ie reading 60 mph when gps says 51. Or 42 when gps say 35mph. Never identical. So I replaced the speedo and now the odo works and so does the speedo. But this odd difference is lingering. Tires match size on the door card. Is this just a bad vss again or is there a difference in the accord speedo types and my speedo was already a botched job, or something else. This is driving me nuts. Thanks in advance

I would think if the vss was the problem you would get a engine light. You say tires are correct.
Rim diameter is stock? Gauge cluster is for the correct year and model? Have you tried the gps
in another car to see if its accurate to that car?

Rims are stock. No vss code. Just an O2 sensor code. Several transmission codes bur none indicating vss. Replaced speedo already in car (which was just as off) with another 94. Will check gps accuracy shortly with eife’s highlander

It’s considered normal for a speedo to be off a little. Acceptable limit is within 5mph. BTW I’ve seen many Honda’s there were a little off just like you say.

I would have no arguement up to 5mph. It’s currently 9mph difference at 51 miles with the speedo and odo moving faster than my gps. 6 miles difference faster @ 35

Gps is within .5 to 1mph difference from 01 highlander.

Only code on the car is 41 for an O2 sensor.

If the tire sizes are correct as you say then it should read correctly. Or it’s possible your GPS is off. Try driving a measured mile at 60mph. Go from one mile marker to the next and set the cruise for 60. It should take 1 minute to travel that distance. If it does, then your speedo is correct.

Will try it. I did swap speedo but the backplane was the same. If the speed test remains inconclusive I will try swapping backplanes

Swapped the backplane and speedo. Odo measures 1.2 miles for every mile traveled based upon mile markers on the highway. Still have the consistant variation where the speedo is some value faster than actual speed though. This is driving me crazy

Have checked a few things but still not sure if the vss is bad. Trip odo registers about 1.14 miles per real mile traveled and speedo registers about the same in difference as mentioned above. As prior. Rims are original, tires match door card. Cruise holds mostly consistant. Would a faulty pin or something in the Trans cause this?

I know that here in the UK it used to be against the law to sell a vehicle where the speedometer read less than the actual speed so most cars over exaggerated the speed by around 10% so the manufacturers could never be fined. These days I believe they are more accurate but not 100% so. Looking on the bright side, your vehicle has actually travelled less miles than you think!

This is more a gross exageration. Other than being consistant it’s just agitating because I have to divide my trip to calculate gas milage and then have to guess approximately what speed I’m really going or use the gps on my phone. I could care less about the vehicle life odo as its currently exempt on my title
