      Just bought a 2006 Honda Accord V6 6 speed a month ago with 66K on the clock. Came with a warranty from the dealer and Ammco is going to repair the 3rd gear synchros. Since the repair is free under warranty should I pay to have anything replaced while they have the trans out such as the rear main seal? Clutch seems good at the moment. I plan on keeping the car as long as possible and I’m putting a serious amount of highway miles on, about 25-30k a year.

        i would! if its under warranty and they will be under there anyway why not buy the seal and have them replace it, they might charge you the labor to install the seal which probably wont be much, but its better than to pay for that that have them go through the whole process again! just my two cents

          It would not hurt to do the rear main seal. 🙂

            I would have them look at the clutch also

              I would ask the trans shop for an opinion. They would have removed several of those transmissions for repair and should know what fails the most on those cars.

                In another 30K you will start wondering how much life is left in the clutch. So, I’ll go beyond what hambys auto says and just say replace the clutch. Pulling the transmission to replace the clutch when the transmission was recently out is not going to put sparkle in your day.

                  Given that it’s a manual transmission means you’ll likely be in there again at some point for a clutch replacement. You can always go back and inspect it at that time. If the seal you have isn’t leaking, I’d recommend you leave it alone. I’d also recommend an OE seal if you do decide to replace it. I’ve often seen where a rear main was replaced as a preventative measure only to end up leaking after the fact due to improper installation, or inferior parts. The best way to keep your oil seals from leaking is to change your oil on a regular basis.
