I was removing the cluster from my Ram today, and to do so, with KOEO you have to put the gear lever in either 2nd or 1st. I was able to put it in drive, as normal, but it wouldn’t move any lower. I tried harder and it finally moved with substantial effort and a grinding sound (note: engine is NOT running) into 1st, but wouldn’t go into second no matter how slowly or carefully I moved the lever. If, from Park, I rapidly pull it all the way down, it’ll go past 2nd into 1st without issue, but coming back up it takes effort to move through second into Drive. So, I started it and tried again, and it acted exactly the same as when the engine was off.
It is a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500, 5.2L V8. The transmission is a Jasper 46RE with approx. 180k on it. The body and engine have 265k.
The last time it was driven, the transmission acted completely normal, but I can’t verify that it still does because the vehicle isn’t currently driveable. (blown head gasket, cracked radiator, frame rusted through) I’m in the process of making it roadworthy.
