There was a video that Eric posted in the past where he speaks about the things people have to do to be successful in this profession. The ongoing training and all of the other things that come with the career. Yesterday it became way more apparent that there are people out there who will use you out for the skills you have acquired. There is a guy that I though was a friend that I would help out from time to time. Now what I realized he does is to use me and others to fix his cars and not pay a cent.

He’s so cheap that he rarely buys tools and if he buys them he takes them back to get his money. Enough is enough.

Watch out for these users. If you don’t want to pay to fix your car. Invest in yourself and get the skills and tools you need. Don’t try to use your brain on people and use them out. In the end it gets you no where.

Yeah, its called the good buddy system. People will take advantage of you every opportunity they get, and employers are no exception. I used to do side work for certain businesses and some private people, its the same deal, they want it done for nothing and expect miracles when its convenient for them.

You are so right. This guy has gotten under my skin to the point that I will not deal with him the same way again. People invest a lot in this trade. From tools to training. Then a person should just come along and exploit them. Give me a break. What goes around comes around.

The strange this is that he claims he was a Mechanic back home. Now he is in Canada and scared to work on his own vehicle. So his strategy is to use me and this other guy to do things on his vehicle for free then go to a shop and pay them to do things that he technically should do for himself.

I have done cable, construction, and mechanics. I had all kinds of friends like that.

Since people are generally don’t respect what people do. You have to add a price tag to it. A fair price is $120 + the cost of parts. At least you get your gas money and some profits.

I knew I was being used but, in my younger days I didn’t mind cause I figured I was gaining experience. Now I refuse to do anything beyond a simple tune-up unless I’m in the shop with all my tools and a lift. Plus when I’m at my shop, the car and I are insured.
