Can you make a video on OBD 2 not reading codes?

How to test an Obd2 Diagnostic Socket if you have no communication

You need to see if the socket is receiving power. So a quick look at a wiring diagram may help.

It’s not an issue I run into often and to be honest it’s probably going to be manufacturer specific when it comes to diagnosis and repair of that problem but if the opportunity presents itself and I have time to shoot the video I’d be happy to do it.

It might be useful to see what the circuit on the outside of the OBD2 interface connector looks like. You would then know what to expect to see on the connector wires.

From the attachments you can see that the operative pins on the serial interface are the ‘K’ and ‘L’ lines along with 12VDC and Ground to supply power to the interface. By checking the voltage on these circuits, you might be able to determine if all the circuits have the voltages required. The serial data lines K and L should be either positive or negative on not zero. The +12VDC and ground should also be present. An LED test light might provide insight into whether data is present on the K and L lines.

                  Hi Eric,

Really looking for a video on OBD 2 diagnostic socket test. As far as I know its just the video on socket test you got to shoot not on the actual diagnosis and repair section. Yeah, there are brands which have different diagnosis and repair procedures/tools to diagnose but here we aren’t quite concerned about that, of course! if you could shoot a video on that as well would be awesome!!!

You need to be concerned about the different manufacturers because they all do things a little bit differently when it comes to the operation of the DLC. If I make a video on the diagnosis on one vehicle it can’t be expected to apply to all. As I stated, every manufacturer has their own procedure for dealing with a dead DLC and those procedures vary greatly. For that reason it would be almost impossible to make a ‘general’ video on something that is manufacturer specific.

I do hope to cover emissions and the operation of the DLC more in the future but there are a lot of other videos that I’d like to get to first that will lay the groundwork for that. I appreciate your enthusiasm and your request.

Gotchya! Then will be eager to see those video s on emissions and the operation of DLC soon. Thanks very much Eric!
