I’m kind of confused by your question. Why would you think the memory saver would fry the PCM while doing those jobs? My understanding is that you plug it in before you disconnect the battery and provide power to the PCM while the battery is unhooked. So, obviously there is some overlap as you have both hooked up at the same time. Am I misunderstanding your question?

Yes that would be the time to use it but you might want to see if you can get the code for your radio as you may have occasion where you need to have it if your battery goes low or something.

Thanks. To do some jobs like the alternator I disconnect the battery. But I have a car that when disconnected the radio locks. I was wondering if for that job I could disconnect the battery and use a obd2 memory saver to save the memory. Guess my question is would it be ok to work on electrical components in a car while the memory saver is hooked up and not damage anything like if the battery was?

I would not recommend using any electrical accessories while you have a memory saver plugged into the DLC socket.

would it be fine to work on electrical repairs like starters, alternators, and sensors with a memory saver hooked up?

Yes, in fact that’s what the tool was designed for however you don’t want to turn anything on during that process and you still need to disconnect the negative battery cable to protect the system when you do those repairs.
