My experience yesterday was, well…I changed the thermostat on the ol bag o crap; tried to do it right and just “let the gasket do its job”. That didn’t work so well 🙁 I had water spewing out the housing  Since I had to redo the job, I coated the tar out of that thing with blue goo 👿 . Let it sit for an hour and I got no leaks :woohoo: Now if I have ever have to take it off of there again it will suck because there will be a big mess  But I saw that permatex now makes a gasket remover chemical that will eat the old stuff up so you can just wipe it off. 😆
Oh, and that stupid gasket cost me as much as the thermostat
