Update: For my Pilot the starter was fused to the engine block. It would not come off so I removed the starter motor from the starter and replaced it with the new one. It started. I’m adding this to the list of problems that if they show up again I’ll bring it to the dealer to earn their salary on. Incidentally, it might make it easier to get to the bottom bolt if you take the motor off. More work but less fishing for the bolt.
