UPDATE
so to catch up…..I have COMPLETELY checked for VACUUM leaks AGAIN…..with carb cleaner….Soapy water…AND PROPANE…..NO VACUUM LEAKS
I checked AND cleaned the FITV…no change….REPLACED the FITV off of my other car that has no problem….NO CHANGE
BLOCKED OFF the FITV with a gasket taking it out of the system…..no change….TOP hole in intake passage is for FITV…..I checked things out by blowing air thru the passages to see what went where…goes from FITV to the AIR BODY VALVE….then to the TOP hole neer the trottle body
CLEANED and Checked IAC…even did the screw driver tap..even REPLACED it with known good IAC from my other car…NO CHANGE
NO CODES….
ONLY DOES IT RANDOMLY……NEVER IN DRIVE…..MIGHT NOT DO IT FOR A DAY OR TWO
VAC LEAK PRESENT ON TOP HOLE BY THROTTLE BODY WHEN CAR HOT….EVEN IF FITV BLOCKED OFF..
NO vac leaks…..
NO CODES….
HELP
ummmmm………..not to sound like a smarty pants…BUT I have been working on my cars for 30 some years…In my very first post I mentioned that I checked for vac leaks..
I have done the car cleaner check AND the propane check……my question to the upper intake gasket leak was to the inside of the gasket…is there a passage that could be leaking from the FITV passage to the intake runner…..
could there possibly be a leak in the gasket between the upper and lower intake that would cause this problem…..I don’t understand why I still have a vacuum leak on the bottom hole with the FITV hole blocked off with a home made gasket ..
ERIC WHAT AM I MISSING ?
HELP
UPDATE….OK…so from what I have read I am being told I have a problem with the FITV…….well…after doing some thinking I took out the three bolts that hold on the FITV and made a block off gasket for BOTH holes out of paper gasket material then bolted the FITV valve back on………AFTER some driving today the up down idle is back in park or neutral ( not all the time but once in a while ) and I have vacuum at the BOTTOM hole…..so if the FITV valve is blocked off…How do I have up down idle in park and neutral AND a vacuum leak on the bottom hole….HMMMMMMM WELL……WHAT NOW ?? 🙁
ERIC WHERE ARE YOU ??
UPDATE !!!
THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY !!
I ran the car 3 days with NO snorkel ….NO up down idle problem…..THE VERY FIRST TIME..I put the snorkel back on drive the car 30 min….DARN IT…its back…..CRAP !! thank god i had a screwdriver handy…i took off the snorkel put my finger over the top hole…idle dropped and smoothed out but didn’t run very smooth up down idle stopped…. finger off…up down idle back……….plugged the bottom hole vac was present….idle dropped car smoothed out and up down idle stopped…so…when the snorkel was unhooked so was the air body valve….what the heck am I missing….HELP
ok…update….tried to get the car to do it so I could pull off the tube between the air filter and the throttle body ( intake snorkel )..and check those holes…….couldn’t get the idle to go up and down……drove the car 20 miles still couldn’t…..SO…I took the snorkel off….drove the car 30 min on the hwy …came back home put the car in neutral….nothing….put the car in park…no up down with the idle….how could a passage be blocked if it doesn’t do it all the time……I HAVE tried thumping the IAC with a screwdriver handle as in the video when the idle is going up and down ….NO RESULTS
