You said you wanted long lasting parts, he said the CVT, and I agree ๐
What makes you want to choose a saturn vue as a project car? It’s obvious you’re going to be sinking money into it so why not getting something with larger aftermarket support. A cheap example would be an old focus like what I own. There is almost as much aftermarket for a focus as for a mustang, anything I want to do, race headers, race exhausts, stealth exhausts, clutch kits, thousands of great suspension options from low riders, extreme handling packages, lift kits, body kits, race heads, great cam options, heavy duty motor mounts. ect. Since ford made an SVT version of the focus they really got the ball rolling as far as great aftermarket support is concerned…
Now, I probably wouldn’t use my focus as a project car, not because I don’t like it but because if I’m going to sink thousands into something, I want a car that will gain value for the money I put into it… A focus wouldn’t really gain money because no one considers a focus a sports car or a luxury car because it is an economy class car that just so happens to have a peppy engine and handle allot better than most…
Perhaps I am missing what you mean by calling it your “project car”…
I’m only 20, but I know what you mean, my own “heroism” or rather ignorance has already taken some toll on me… I’m kinda glad that v8 motors aren’t as common these days… stupid alpha male BS we have… I hope your days get better man, a lube tech is no fun, that’s what guys my age should be doing… Heck, it’s kinda what I do… only they’re labeled MACK and International.
Hey guys. Im thinking of buys a new honda accord lx-s 4 cyl with the 6 speed manual. First new car and i want it done right.
Congrats!
Is it a better idea to leave the factory fluids in it until its broken in or change it as soon as i get it in the drive way?
Leave it, it’ll be fine…
I want to put in mobile 1 full synthetic 5w-30 and lucas synthetic oil conditioner.
Too thick!!! check the service manual! My parents honda civic recommends 0w20! Anything rougher and it runs like crap! A mechanic once used used 5w30 in it, it was horrible! Only use what honda recommends, all be it, 0w20, 5w20, 0w30 or whatever the book says!!!
Also you don’t need oil treatments… Just stick with the recommended oil and change intervals, that is the best thing you can do! ๐
Used lucas on my ’94 mazda b2300 (ford ranger) and the engine runs smoother than I want it running mint off the lot as long as i can.
Big difference there buddy ๐
Oh and any suggestions on tranny and differential fluid too? I want it all synthetic if i can.
ONLY use synthetic in these cars, unless you want to void your warranty, also with a manual you should be fine until about 100k miles, again, check what the book recomends for exact miles and things… From my experience only use Honda tranny fluid…I know sure as heck there is nothing better than motorcraft tranny fluid (that I’ve tried anyway) in my mtx-75, and that is what it recommends.

^ This!
If you do do it, PLEASE remove your battery and DON’T plug it in until your 100% sure the engine bay has dried! There is allot of electronics in there these days that no-one ever seems to think about about it until they hear a knocking or the engine is magically overheating ! These aren’t the days of carburetors were you could put a bag over the carb and spray the engine willy nilly… It’s not really worth it unless you have a show car…

I know what you mean, I originally bought the haynes manual for my focus back when I first bought my car, but a 350 page book barely covers both engines offered, the 3 transmissions (2 different manuals transaxles for the 2 engines) and all of the wiring!!!
The best manuals to buy are shop manuals made by the big guys them selves especially if your car is 10 years old +/- a few years… I actually was able to buy all 3 official ford shop manuals (2 of them about 3 inches thick the other about 3/4 inch) for my 2000 ford focus for about $67 on ebay. You just have to look around a little…

These youtube auto links need to be fixed!
Here is the link OP tried to link to, I had to quote his post just so I could see it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkpWVxYdumw
Anyway, it looks like a cool concept, I wouldn’t think of using it in place of of my jack stands though and bulky design looks like it might get in the way of things on smaller cars, other than that It looks like something that would come in handy when doing transmission swaps or even replacing motor mounts. I can see it costing a pretty penny…
