That answers that. Thanks. What about the steel LIM valley gasket in between the heads. I believe Black RTV sealant just is applied to either end. Thanks.

February 1, 2012 at 11:00 am in reply to: Lower intake manifold gasket on 3.3L 2000 Town and Country #448990Thanks for the advice guys. I picked up the new gasket today for $21.0. I think i spent at least $21.0 in brake cleaner trying to clean the old one. I’m learnin.

Thanks everyone, I am learning, hopefully not the hard way. I got the message. I hopefully will get the head bolts tomorrow. So even though I had already tightened one head down to 65 ft-lbs, I am assuming that I could still take out the old bolts and install new ones and “use same head gasket” even though it has been torqued down once to 65 Lbs. I guess I am not sure if the head gasket had to be replaced once bolts are once again loosened. Thanks.

I will definitly keep you guys posted. We used to have a really good machine shop in our town. The guy retired and shop is now closed. It is difficult to get good ref. as to who does qaulity work. Thanks. I am going to call a few shops today and put my faith in one of them.

Hey Eric, took the head over to a mechanic today. He said that I should have it machined, but he also mentioned that it may be cheaper just to pick up a used head from local salvage yard for about $80.0. It is more of a gouge or pitted and that is exactly the adjacent spot where the gasket blew out. Anyway I am going to check both options as to which is cheaper. Thanks.

Thanks, I will have it checked out. Thats good news, being that I don’t have to replace both heads if only one of them is shot.

Thanks for the advice. Yes I will check the actual oil pressure with a gauge. I am just looking for a way to keep the “Green Dragon” going until the spring. I might just end up driving it to the boneyard across town but first I would like to do an autopsy and find out what happened.

Thanks guys, no coolant loss. Good suggestion about the screen. I will make sure and drop the pan and check that. I should have mentioned previous that the intake blew about 6 months ago and I replaced UIM and LIM. Changed the oil twice since then. Thanks.

The Bonneville has 207,000 mi. Thanks for the tip about the video. I will watch it today.

Thanks, I was going to check the pressure, but if it is the pump, is it worth replacing? I am going to do the work myself.

Driveway AlThanks, yes hard to explain about the hub. It is I guess to say it is out of round, I guess – off center. I really do not know how it got that way. Not even sure if it was warpage, but I will have the tires re-balanced. I will try to take picture looking straight down thru hub. This might explain it better. Sorry for the confusion.

Well, I did a little work on the truck this week with my time off. Turns out I got rid of about 90% of the vibration. I jacked up the front end and found a number of issues. Both end links were rusted completely off so i replaced them. Then I noticed that there was a lot of play in the idler arm bushing, so i replaced that. Those two fixes tightened up the front end pretty good, about half the vibration gone. Then i found the wheel bearings- both sides had movement, so i replaced those. The drivers side bearing, was well I don’t know what happened to it. When i pulled the hub/rotor off the bore inside the was off-center, I mean almost warped. I noticed it when i went to put a 27mm socket thru to knock out the outer race. I could not get the socket thru, even though the outside of the rotor did not look distorted. I ended up replacing the rotor. I looked at the spindle and it looks fine. Does anyone know how something like that could happen? I only owned the truck for about 2 months. Anyway that really seemed to smooth out the ride. Thanks for everyones input. Now I need to check out the back.

Thanks, I am going to give a look at it this week. I will keep everyone updated on what I find. Thanks, about reminding me about the differential. Almost forgot about that.

The tires look in pretty good shape visually. I will take your suggestion and rotate the front to the back, I will get under there this weekend and look for any shiny spots where a weight might have come off and also check the u-joints. Is there any way to tell if the driveshaft is bent without taking it off? Thanks.

It is a 2WD, sorry I should have mentioned that from the start.
