Sounds like our customers. “I ain’t wanna pay nuttin” blah blah they bought the car there, ect, ect. Yeah, well go find the salesman who sold it to you and have him diagnose it. That’s what I want to say anyways.

It’s like this, if I can just simply look at it and tell what it is, I’m not going to charge, but if I have to hook up equipment and/or spend time on it, take apart thigns, there needs to be a charge.

Like I said in the original thread, Comunisim. The good techs are going to leave, and lets see how the shop functions with people like said oil/tire changer. I hope the owner/GM fires the service manager.

The SM was trying to find a way to “make right” for the driveability techs without actually paying more out of his pocket.

        Good deal moving to hyundia.

I got a top for my bottom box and miss my desk.

I had a snap on classic 96. The one with the long drawers. Sold it and got a us general box and honestly I don’t miss the payment.

Have you spoken to your service manager and or general manager about this practice? It’s money out of their checks as well.

Must not be a strong service advisor. I guess if you can’t sell it you have to give it away.

If say I’m doing an intake gasket on a car that requires removal of the intake to do plugs, I’m not going to add on the full tune up labor, but something should be added. Sometimes I throw it on for nothing just to eliminate other issues. I had a pcv job on a gm 3.6 which required changing valve covers. Did plugs anyways because I’m sure the oil in the intake didnt do the plugs any favors. But that was my discreSsion.

Is your boss’s last name Marx?

Your dealership is about to lose some of their more productive techs.

Communism doesn’t work, and you’re about to see Why.

There are many ways to clean carbon from the inside of the combustion chamber. if your engine starts getting spark knock or you fail emissions it may by nessasar. Some ways are simpler than others. Some more effective than others. Some more dangerous than others.

Water will work If you do it on a HOT engine. The water hits that carbon and breaks it up. It’s easy to tell on a blown head gasket because one cylinder is So clean. However YOU RUN THE RISK OF HYDROLOCKING YOUR ENGINE especially if you have the kind of intake that has low spots where pudding can occur.

The GM way of pouring top engine cleaner in the actual cylinder and soaking it is very effective but is very time consuming.

Spays down the intake do great cleaning the intake but do little to get carbon off the combustion chamber.

Finally it can be easy as running detergent gas. Chevron, shell, and ExxonMobil gas cost more for a reason. It might take a few tanks to get it under control. DETERGENT GAS WILL PREVENT CARBON BUILD UP. Yeah I know Costco gas is so cheap, I use it too.

There is that risk of breaking a large piece of carbon off and causing engine damage. The GM method i mentioned is least likely to cause this issue, besides running good gas.

Oh, don’t forget that your cats dont like some of these cleaners. P0420 and P0430 Are evil expensive twins.

What only missing in gear tells me is a light misfire where you don’t feel it when the load is light. Putting it in gear Increases the load. Can you tell which cylinDer is missing? what is funny is I had a car recently with a miss only under load. Turned out to be the injector harness had a pinch but only pinched under load when the engine moved.

                      First post, hi everyone.

Still you didn’t replace the plugs and wires. Above poster is correct there should not be slack in the distributor. However plugs and wires can look okay, but not be okay. Sitting for a long time they might be somewhat fouled by old gas. check that you have a good strong spark, no yellow sparks. They should be blue and be able to ar .
