Hi 05Cmary, looks like my last post was over 2.5 years ago. I ended up mixing Maxlife with my Toyota “WS” fluid back then, and never had an issue with it. Hope this helps.

After the compression test I’m grasping at straws. I’ve checked the ignition timing twice but I’ll be doing it again today.

I know it’s not my imagination, because I’ve never been embarrassed to drive the car before. I used to pass at least some cars on the road. 😉

I got my heads back this afternoon. I’m sure the pieces are all jumbled up. Since the two heads are identical, the guy told me I can put either one on either side. He then handed me back the rocker arms and pivot balls in a box. Obviously keeping things in their original location never entered his mind. Is this going to cause me a problem in the long run?

OK, I bought the scanner, hooked it up to my car, but it won’t read any codes! Display lights up and goes through setup (cycles thru the numbers 82 to 86 for year selection), but then gives a blank display (four dashes) indicating either no data or wrong data type. Will this tool only work on 81 to 86 cars? (checked fuse in unit, fuse is good)

                    Hi Eric,

Thanks to this video, I now feel like I can take on the transmission fluid change in my 2007 Toyota Tacoma!

A few months have gone by since this video, is everything is still cool with the Valvoline Max Life instead of the proprietary Toyota fluid?

I started out watching the UK version in maybe 2008 or so, and it’s still my favorite. I saw a few of the first season American TG episodes, and like ETCG, I was turned off by them. However, you say it’s improved, so I’d be willing to give them another shot.

My friend and I watched the first season of TG Australia, and we thought it was actually rather good. We really liked one of the presenters, Charlie Cox, so when they replaced him in season 2 we sort of lost interest.

Wow, that’s a LOT of stuff! Especially considering the age of the car. OK, I’m convinced that it would be worth it to pick one up. I have a few different issued this could help me track town.

I guess we can’t make a blanket statement about what’s available informationwise for pre-OBD-II cars, but we do know that this particular car (and possibly most GM vehicles of this time) can tell you a lot through their ALDL connectors.

If anyone has a different conclusion or experience please let me know.

                                ToyotaKarl,

I asked the ebay seller a similar question, and he responded,

“It will reveal stored codes as I understand it and tell you sensor values”

I also called the number that appeared on the front of the manual in the picture. I actually did reach someone at “Automotive Test Systems, Inc.” but they have no information for this older unit.

At least being able to read some of the sensor outputs could help with diagnosis.
