This topic covers a broad range of issues, including anything from a rough-running engine to a failed differential. For that reason, I’m just going to cover the basics of how to go about finding the source of a performance issue rather than pick apart every single system. I also write articles for specific check engine light codes that can be accessed through the ‘Codes’ page on this website. In addition to myself, there are also articles written by other automotive professionals to help you with the specific codes you might have. If available, those can be found by typing your code into the stay dirty search function on the site. We’re adding new articles all the time so check back often.

Eric my wife has a 99 Altima with the 2.4 4cyl. My problem with it is when the car is at idle it runs smooth. When u go to take off the car kind of hesitates almost like its starving for fuel. While it is hesitating if u give it more gas it comes out of it. Goes very good if u floor it as well. I’ve replaced plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor. New fuel filter. Before I put the new fuel filter on it I had my wife get in the car and turn the key on and fuel came out quick and instantly so based on that it seems like the fuel pump is ok. Only engine code it had was for vent valve solenoid.
