Will Electric Vehicles Put Your Neighborhood Mechanic Out of Business?? – ETCG1
This question was submitted via Twitter by @FWGMills. His question comes from this article.
The article forecasts gloom and doom for the neighborhood mechanic. Perhaps on some level they’re right, but I like to remain optimistic. In fact, a smart person would consider this and possibly build a neighborhood shop around electric vehicle/hybrid service.
Also, I don’t think electric vehicles are going to take over anytime soon. I think we still have a few years to go before that happens.
Lastly, don’t forget, electric vehicles don’t really solve environmental problems. In fact, they could increase them. Lithium mining is toxic, nickel is toxic to mine, cadmium is toxic, and most power plants in the US burn coal to make electricity. This doesn’t seem like an environmentally viable option to me. At least with todays technology.
Just because it makes you feel better, that doesn’t mean it’s better for the planet.
That said, I’m looking forward to your comments and input on this one.
**Note: I realize there are moving black lines in the video. This is because of the frame rate my camera shoots at, and because I use florescent lights in the shop. The combination of these 2 things are the reason you see those black lines. I’m working on this problem, getting a new camera that shoots at a different frame rate and has anti-flicker. If that solves the problem, I’ll be doing more videos with DSLR’s.
I’ll also do more experimenting with the audio to make that better too.
Thanks for watching!
