Hi Eric, great site and videos…you have saved me about a zillion bucks!

I’m having issues with the power steering on my Pontiac. I’ve replaced the rack and pinion twice, the first time because it was obviously leaking. The leaks started up again a few months later and I assumed I had a bad rack…if there is such a thing.

Well, the leaks are back, so I’m going to replace the high pressure line. Any words of wisdom before I begin? Also, which fitting on the power steering rack is the high pressure line top or bottom? Thanks for all your help!

If the rack keeps leaking is there another brand you could try?

I’m not sure it’s the rack this time…but, the selection is pretty limited and nearly everything that’s out there is rebuilt.

I’ve had issues with ACDelco racks. I had to put 3 in this Civic.

Just throwing that out there. As for finding leaks. I’ve written extensively about that here.

Perhaps there’ll be some information there that will be helpful to you. I would do my best to find the leak BEFORE I bought anymore parts.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

And the update…both boots on the rack are dry, so that’s not the problem. Both the pressure and return lines have leaks at the metal to rubber joints. Bought replacements off Amazon and got a great deal. The pressure line swap was a little difficult, but I got it done. The return line is a problem. I just can’t get the fitting in the line to catch any threads on the rack. Suggestions?
