Hello Eric,
Thanks for posting this parts price video. It’s an aspect that I never really thought of to be honest with you. I like to do whatever work on my car that I can myself. However there are some jobs, that I dont feel I have the skills, equipment, ect to do. I found a shop in my area and the owner is cool, and hes never done me wrong. Though, after watching this video, I feel bad that I may have done him wrong. On more then one occasion, I have purchased parts for my car, (ZZPerformance Long Tube Header/catted downpipe combo once, the other time was a GM Performance Clutch, and a pair of GM Performance upgraded steering knuckles for my ’06 Cobalt) I purchased these parts online and hired his shop to install them. He had no problem installing the parts for me.

So after watching your video, I wont be doing that anymore. Last week, I had to have my AC Pump replaced. So I let them take care of getting the parts. The service writer told me that replaceing the AC Pump they would have to chage the expansion valve, and receiver dryer as well. (2006 Cobalt SS/SC)

And yes, I have one of those modded cars that I’d may be better off selling at the race track. But I think I’ll keep it for as long as I can ;).

Hello Everyone!
Eric, I really have come to love watching your videos. They have given me some good insite into the world of Automotive repair. I enjoy getting the repair tech’s point of view on things. As an aviation electrican (Avionics tech) I can relate to many of your videos, as some of the things you say also hold true in the world of aviation maitenence. There have been days where I draged myself to work, and was like, great.. I have to do THIS? Don’t get me wrong, I still love my job, I love aviation, but some jobs are just annoying. Last night was one of those nights. We had a bunch of GPS recievers that needed software updates. I think myself and a coworker managed to get 2 done. We had issues with the programer/loader ect. seemed last night was not a good night at work. So I feel you there Eric. 🙂

Also, I remember you made a video about getting more healthy. Comparing how you look in your older videos to how you look now, you do look healthier. This past year Ive been bicycling more and my sister said after not seeing me for a while that I look healthier as well.
On a side note,
My birthday is in a few weeks. I’ll have to re-watch your video so you can say happy birthday to me 😉
But most of the time, I have fun, I try to stay safe, and I defiently stay dirty!

I’ve subscribed to both Scotty and Eric. Scotty seems a little more old fasion, and ‘back yardish’ I guess. For the most part I like Eric’s better, they seem more, profesional I guess. But there were a few that I liked Scotty’s view on better. His meathod seemed abit simpler, for example on how to find a vacume leak. Buying a cigar is going to be alot cheaper then a smoke machine. They seem to be two sides to the same coin. Though I will admit his cat converter repair with, whatever that stuff was he said to put in the gas tank was a little bit facepalming. I remember Eric did a video about that too. I also remember that Scotty didn’t say it would ALWAYS fix it. They seem to be just too differnt flavors and prospectives on the same thing. I enjoy watching both, and both provide good information.
Keep in mind that I also install lug nuts with an impact. This goes a long way to help keep things snug. It’s probably not a bad idea to check them every oil change just to be on the safe side though.
How do you prevent damaging the brake rotor and stripping the stud in the process? I always heard it was really bad to impact lugnuts on.

Sorry to zombie an old thread.
I had put general perpous greese on the lug nuts when I put them on. Then torque with a torque wrench that I purchased at Sears and treat gently, but never got it calibrated. Cobalt gets 100′ lbs while the Jeep gets 95′ lbs (Seems low, but thats what the manual says)

Drove the Jeep 20 miles, then retorqued them as the manual says. All 5 of them rotated at the 20 mile retorque. Drove it 7 more miles, torque checked them again, all 5 good. I’ll check them again in another 14 miles or so. Maybe I shouldn’t have put greese on it?
Ive put greese on the Cobalt lugs and at the 20 mile retorque never had the lugs turn for that.

You’re right, we’ll never know. Thanks for your responces though. Every once in a while I wonder what the problem was with that van. Guess it’s because it was my first vehical and all. Makes me miss the Goodyear Aquatread III tires. Those were the best tires I’ve ever had

I had the coolant flushed during a road trip, so no I’m not. It was back in July 2001 at one of those quick oil changes. They reccomended a coolant flush after an oil change. The Van had just started the overheat problem at the time, and when looking at the coolant a few days earlyer I noticed it was nasty so I told them to go ahead with it.

That van is long gone, but I was just curious what the problem could have been. I left Northern California, didnt make it out of California before it started to have overheat issues. Mad it up to northern Oregon where I had the oil changed and coolant flushed.

Then took it north to Seattle, and east to Michigan. It was a great trip. As long as we (My friend was with me) shut the Van off when we got off the freeway to let it cool down it didn’t over heat. But the temp would start climbing as soon as we hit the exit ramp. So we exited, stoped for food and gas, let it cool down abit, then back to the highway. We had wired in an electric switch to turn the fan on, but that didn’t seem to help.

But now that you mention it, I suppose it COULD have been air in the system. Though even when we made it back to Michigan from Oregon, you’d think it would have worked all the bubbles out.
