Hi,
I rented a timing light. I set the timing and now the car starts perfect no hard start.
Thanks,
JesseHI Guys,
Thanks for all the replies. This forum by far is the best and has soul. Eric I really enjoyed your video. So I was able to fix the issue. I put in a brand new fuel filter and it started just like that. Maybe I lucked out.
Regards,
Jessehi cap269,
thanks again for your help. so I hooked up the green tach wire from the dms to power light lit up. Then I hooked red wire to power now light always stays on. Lol i must of woke it up.
Hi, thanks for your response. I bought it off craigslist the guy said it was brand new and it was still wrapped up. The model number is 6000-6600. I made sure there was continuity from chassis point to negative battery terminal. My 1980 monte carlo is not suppose to have vacum advance according to repair manual and from viewing it. I emailed crane they said this ” If you have power and ground to the box and the light is turning off then the box may be shorting out.” How do i stop box from shorting out?
Hi I went ahead and bought a crane cams ignition(digital multi spark ignition). Got a good deal on craigslist. I have hooked it up right to the hei system. The red light is suppose to come on, on the box when key in battery on position, but it does not. The ground wire comes out of the box and is connected to a 3/8 ring terminal which i have bolted to chassis. When i move the ground terminal around it blinks red but then stops no steady right light. I have confirmed 12v to system. any ideas? I have added the diagram
Attachments:hi,
I checked both these area you pointed to in the pictures. Both readings showed 0.00 ohms. So I mentioned before the distributor was new there is a tin piece over the module saying warranty void if module removed. Could the be interfering with the ground?
Hi cap 269,
so you said before
I would do a continuity check between the ignition ground (middle terminal on cap between C- and B+ terminals) and a known good ground (or neg battery terminal), and between the ground of the ignition module (screw on module closest to C terminal) to known good ground, to make sure the ground circuit is intact.”Between the screw on the module and the neg battery terminal it checks out at 0.00 ohms. However, between the middle terminal and battery neg terminal is reads infinity(1). What does this mean? How do I resolve this?
P.s. is it ok that i had cap off when i tested this by probing middle terminal and battery neg terminal?
Hi, I checked the screw on module closest to C terminal for ground I am not getting infinity on the multi meter. Does this mean I have bad ground? How do I fix this issue?
Hi Cap 269,
just making sure i do test right. I should set the multi meter to highest ohm reading and if it reads a 1 then there is continuity(ground)?
I am getting so frustrated. I put in a brand new carbon button and spring and I got another ignition coil from junk yard. I tested the coil before i installed it checked ok. Still no spark. pickup coil ok, module new, distributor new, over 12v at pink wire. When the car is cranked what initiates the ignition system?
hi,
could i possibly have a bad carbon brush(button) in the distributor cap? If so I would i know? I tested the resistance on pick up coil its ok and i did all the tests on the coil with the multi meter the numbers are all ok. Yesterday i stated low voltage at b and c terminals at the module i was looking wrong they both have 12v so does the b+ terminal on coil.
Hi Eric,
Thank you so much for replying to my post I am kinda honoured I have been watching you’re videos for awhile now. Just one question with the information you mentioned below. How do I tell if the coil fires if I do this test i.e. does it make a noise or do I leave the spark plug wires on the distributor cap? I have a spark tester connected in-between a spark plug and spark plug wire.
Hi Cap 269,
I am at this step of the flow chart for hei troubleshooting:
1. disconnect Distributor terminal “C/+”
2. ignition on , engine not running
3. check voltage at “+” and “C” terminals of the distributor harness connectorThe pink wire had 12.44v to it. I tested both the + and c terminal and it showed 0 volts to both of them.
The flow chart says to “repair module + terminal to ignition coil B connector. That wire seems fine to me do you have any suggestions?Your information is great thx. I hope not a stupid question but how do a voltage test on a no post battery? also can i do the resistance testing at the fuse box if the issue is with the on circuits if so how?
hi how to I check resistance on grounds with a multi meter? Keep in mind I have no access to the starter and my car is not running
One more thing I wanted to add to this forum @cap 269. When my car is in battery on position the volt meter in dash only shows 7 to 8 volts but when I put leads on battery(multi meter) the battery is 12.55v. What does this mean? -
