I suppose I have a few questions to start, the first being have you checked the so called basics?
I would first check all the systems the engine needs to run… does it have spark, good fuel being supplied, compression, and good timing? If the engine doesn’t have one of these things then you need to figure out why. I’m a bit confused on your phrasing but are you having a problem with the fuel getting to the engine? Im not quite sure what you mean when you say you “extended the crankshaft position plug”.
Please elaborate and I will try and help you further.I inspected and tested the idle air control valve and found that not to be the issue.
Is there any other suggestions I would really appreciate any additional input? I am wondering if it could be anything regarding the fuel delivery system I am really not sure.
I have cleaned the throttle body recently but I may have missed the IAC.
Is it possible that just taking it out and giving it a good cleaning would do the trick?
Hey college man, could you take a look at my other thread and see if you have any suggestions on some cold start issues I’ve been having with this car as well?
I let the fuel pump prime a couple times and that doesn’t have an effect. The throttle body was also just cleaned
Thanks, I will try this!
I have finally ended the ever advancing saga of the squeal curse. B) B)
I had my friend get in the car, and press the brake repeatedly while I listened very closely to each wheel, and I heard squawking coming from the drivers rear drum brake. I took the rear brakes apart, and replaced them with new hardware, shoes, and drums. I also lubed the contact points on the backing plate.
THE SQUEAK IS GONE NOW! I’m so happy as it was driving me absolutely crazy! A special thanks to Bonnieman for the great insight as it is very much appreciated. 🙂
The brake pads are the C562 pads from O’Reillys. I used silicone paste on the caliper bracket slide pins, and then I used permatex purple synthetic brake lube on the caliper bracket hardware, pad-backs, and the pad ears. I purchased new caliper brackets so there was no need to clean out the rust. I installed new brake rotors, and cleaned each rotor twice before putting it on the car. I was careful not to get any grease on the pads as well. I scraped the hub down as good as I could get it, and I did not see any abnormal wear with the old pads.
I think this thing might be cursed…
Yes, the brake pads came with new shims already attached, and the caliper bracket hardware is brand new. The only place I didn’t apply grease was between the shim and the pad, but I was told that you weren’t supposed to do that.
The brake pads and rotors are the O’Reillys Brake Best Premium line. I have replaced rotors, pads, hardware, and the caliper brackets with new slide pins/boots.
Is there a way to tell whether the valve covers are leaking or not? There was some oily buildup around them that I had cleaned off recently… the exhaust manifolds are directly below the valve cover so that could be an issue… I’m not entirely sure though…
I was told that it smells like oil, and I have smelled a wif or two inside the engine bay as well. I’m thinking it’s MAYBE an oil leak somewhere?
Hey again,
I apologize I didn’t reply back sooner, but I ended up taking it down to my local mechanic who does very good work who I’ve been using for years. It actually ended up being an galled/ broken egr valve, and so he replaced that, and the car has run great since then. I just thought I would update everyone on this issue in case someone is having the same problem.
Thank you guys!
Well, I don’t exactly have access to a scan tool, but I did want to clarify that the engine is FULLY WARMED UP every time this has happened. Is there a better suggestion you could give me in light of this new information?
I think the only reason I brought up the lights was that maybe I thought it could be related…
???
Okay, I already purchased the stuff to do a tune up on the vehicle, and I figure if it doesn’t fix it, then it was already due for that service anyways.
I also had another problem with this car that I wanted to ask. The car when going over bumps has a clunking sound coming from the passenger front as far as I can tell. The car has new Struts that are all less than 30K miles old, so I have a hard time believing it’s the struts… any direction would be appreciated!
