This forum is started by suggestion from one of the forum members, SpawnedX. The idea behind it is to have a place where technicians can talk about their experiences and ideas concerning their careers and profession. Think of it as sort of an extension to ETCG1 were we talk about things that concern us and the automotive industry. This is for technicians only so please don’t post automotive questions here. If you are a technician welcome to this forum, if not please stay behind the yellow line. Perhaps we can start by introducing ourselves.

I’m Eric Cook aka EricTheCarGuy. I’ve worked as a professional technician since 1996 and have been an ASE master technician for the past 15 years. I worked for Acura at the dealer for about 8 years and spent the rest of my time working at aftermarket shops on both imports and domestics. I’m also an Acura certified master technician which I got as a result of my training at Acura. For a brief time I ran a Carx after I lost my job at Acura, that was interesting and challenging in many ways but I did work with some good people there and learned a lot about running an automotive business as a result of that experience. Now I have a successful auto repair show on the internet as well as a successful website and forum. To be honest my favorite job so far has been working as ETCG, it seems my entire career including my termination from Acura has led me to this place and I could not be happier with the result. I suppose that just goes to show you never know where you’re going to end up.

Welcome to the Technicians Only forum, I look forward to getting to know you and your work better.

Hello, the name is Nerd, coolestnerd for sure! I have been a Master Tech since 1998 I have my L1 and hold ASE’s in medium heavy truck too. I have been wrenching in PA, CA, and NY. I have worked in the dealerships but tend to enjoy working at independent shops as they seem more relaxed. I have worked at Toyota, Ford, Chrysler ( back woods hick shop totally sucked) now I am teaching the trade. I enjoy teaching the trade, but the school politics is a real downer. The cool thing is that the administration has no clue what is being taught, so they just look for students doing work in the shop and they are pretty much happy. I would really like it if these kids would get their drivers license’s, but nowadays I have 18yr olds that still do not have the desire to get it. They seem not to believe me that you need to have a valid license to get a job in a shop.

Hello. My name is Will, residing in northern NY, and I am a tire tech at an independent shop. Almost ASE certified in brakes and steering and suspension. I just need my year of experience in addition to my two years of school. I aim to be a master tech, and I want to focus on electrical and engine diagnostics. I don’t mind being a tire tech, for now. My biggest concern is being stuck in this position for a long time. Being honest, I didn’t go to school to do tires.

All that being said, I love my job and my coworkers, and want to further my knowledge and be the best that I can be.

Welcome to the forum. Suggestion though, with that hat it might be hard to get under a dash and find an electrical problem. Is that standard attire for your workplace ?

Hi, my name is Kevin. I graduated from the TTEN program and earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ. I’ve been working at a Toyota dealer as an hourly lube tech for the past 4 years. Before that I worked as both a parts person and a lube tech at a now defunct auto parts and service chain for 3 1/2 years. I have A4 and A5 ASEs and am working on getting more. I have never worked as flat rate but am trying to work up to that position at my dealership. As it stands now I am next in line seniority wise, so hopefully a position will open up soon.

                      Hi!
I’m an old airforce educated electronics-technician, having had a lifelong love for modifying & tuning cars/engines.
                      Both mechanical & electronic.
Have from the late-80’s / early 90’s been Norwegian importer for Haltech/Holley & Link Electrosystems programmable engine-management-systems (in a ~10 year period).
Most of my experience have been with my own (old) european Fords ; Escort Mk1 & II / Capri Mk1, II, III / Taunus / Granada / Sierra / Focus / -and a Mustang II Cobra II (of the original <> fame) B)
((dreaming of finding & importing a “new” Cobra II or King Cobra in “perfect” shape, prefer a slightly modified sample))
I have been forced to have other jobs for living, but always been a car-hobby-nut… :silly:
                      I’m running a 03′ Focus Mk1-TDCi as everyday-car, but hate the fact it is front-wheel-drive. 🙁
I’m in here for learning and helping, if I can!

Just joined this group. Really enjoy the ETCG1 videos on youtube. I feel I can relate to a lot of what Eric has to say. I worked in Honda new car dealerships from 1979 through 2006. I received Honda’s highest certification, Diamond Level, and also won the Honda Top Tech contest in 1998. I have worked in a small independent import shop since 2007 and don’t get to do many Hondas anymore but have learned a lot about German cars. Looking forward to some good discussions.

                            Hey all,
My name is Chris and I am a new technician at a Mazda dealership. I was attending NASCAR Technical Institute, until I left to continue my training with Mazda. I completed a majority of the curriculum (Just enough to earn ASE’s) but left before the NASCAR specialized courses began. I have only been in the industry for 6 months but enjoy it so far. Looking forward to exploring this forum.

Dan here. Just recently found ETCG1 on youtube. I am a master Kia tech in Indiana and have been a tech for over 25 years. I’ve worked for GM, Cadillac, Nissan, Dodge and Chrysler along with a couple independents in my earlier days before settling where I am now.

Looking forward to being a part of this community.

What’s up Eric! I’ve been watching your channel since you started. Love it.

Well onto myself: My name is Abdul I live in PTLD Oregon. My automotive background started at an early age of 13. My dad was always fixing his race cars and doing things to them. This sparked a passion for all things automotive and have been obsessed ever since. I studied automotive technology in high school for 4 years. It’s a program kinda like a skills center or elective class. Due to my ADD i wanted to learn something new so i graduated with an associates degree in electronics engineering. Later on I was hired at Intel corp as a full time manufacturing tech.

Most of my automotive experience comes with backyard knowledge and practices. I didn’t know how to use a lift until about 5 years ago when I started working professionally part time at an indy shop. I can say I learned the most doing it as a job but decided it wasn’t for me as I didn’t want to kill my obsession. I still occasionally get a call about a BMW specific problem or do an odd job here and there.

I’m 31 years old now and spend most of my free time building my 1971 datsun 240z into a HPDE track day race car. My specialized knowledge base is with datsuns and older bmws…pre 2005. However I do have a lot of general knowledge with other makes and models. I have a lot of respect for the full time mechanics, I had a small taste and I just couldn’t hang I guess. Well that’s it. Thanks!

                                  He all!

Not specifically a auto-tech but a long time mechanic ad recent fan of the ETGC1 videos. I currently work on material handling and ariel lift equipment and spend most of my time doing road service. In the past I’ve done fleet service for a landscape company, heavy equipment and tractor trailers.
