Simple solution. Upgrade to the MFI with real injectors. Those spider poppet valves have been my enemy a few times. They do all sorts of weird crap.

It seems your alarm has disabled ignition or fuel pump. You may look into resyncing the keys.

If the switch is actuating the motor but the motor is not working either the motor is weak. Or the regulator is getting stuck. bypass the switch with jumper leads and see if it works then. If not then remove the motor and bench test it. If it works there and it’s the pulley system type of regulator then it might be the regulator.

Bleed it. Bleed it. Bleed it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen spongy brake pedal and it just needs to be bled.

If it’s running a tad rich check the cts. The gauge on the dash is a different sensor.

I couldn’t find it else where for less. If you’re in california then yeah definitely need it. Emissions items seem to always be expensive.

I abuse it. It’s got spark at that rpm. Fuel pressure is 16 psi at that rpm. Not much more I can test without a dyno. I’ve checked everything from transmission line pressure to well just about everything aside from tearing apart the engine.

If you don’t have a transmission pressure gauge I’d recommend taking it to someone. The gauges themselves are only around 60. But only if you want to spend that money.

First try bleeding the clutch. I’ve seen the pedal won’t return problem a few times. It’s usually air in the system. If that however doesn’t work then you might have a back master or bad slave. Check to see if the slave leaks. If it does then replace and bleed. If it continues to stay on the floor bleed it some more. Keep bleeding it until you are absolutely sure there is no air. If you have no air in the system and it’s not returning the pedal then put a master on it.

Have someone or yourself run a line pressure test on the transmission.

Check to make sure your coolant temp sensor is working. On a lot of cars the computer won’t let you rev past a certain rpm if it sees the engine as cold.

Check to make sure all your door switches are working and also the hood switch. Had this problem on a 1997 escort where the hood switch was bent and would randomly set off the alarm. For the sliding door I would start by checking the tracks and see if it came off one set. If it’s simply not actuating the latch then the lever probably came disconnected inside the door.

Check fuel pressure under load. Possibly could be a clogged fuel filter.

Rock auto standard p/n 17070622 for 295. Depending on what state you live if you don’t have emissions testing to could probably bypass it. And yes it does make a difference which valve is used.
