It only got 133k on it. But I’m not sure if it’s the original water pump. I’m sure the timing belt is not original.
Do you know that scraping mark just the normal wear for an older component?
I’m thinking just clean the surface and put a new gasket on it.
But I’m not sure if there’s other factors caused that mark.
      Thank you.

New development, The car won’t start this morning. I jumped it with another car, it started. I charged for 5 minutes and put the original light bulb back to the dashboard. After all these the car won’t start again. I replaced the alternator a couple of months ago with a second hand one. I’m not sure what to do. Replace another alternator? Charge the car more time or after charge drive for a while?

Hi, I have a similar issue. But I have a 2002 Subaru Legacy. It came with aftermarket radio system. I don’t know what the previous own has done. At the beginning my stick shift light out, I replaced it. Now it’s been 3 some years, the dashboard light are out and the stick shift light are out too.
I replaced the dashboard lights, but no luck. I suspect it’s the wiring. Can you or the technician give me some information?

So, you agree the sludge between the head and block is the sign of failure of the head gasket?
If it blow, how much damage would it do to the engine(Piston, camshaft etc…)?
Do I need to resurface the head and the block?

About 147k. I haven’t driven much this past year. I put on like 55k on this car. Timing belt was done when I purchased it. If I know this much when I purchased it, I would just tell the mechanic do the gasket at the same time. What a waste of money.

I just done this. Took me many hours to configure everything.

I purchased a j2535 cable from ebay for Toyota. It comes with a software.

I did a lot of readings about HDS for honda. It turned out you can use this j2535 for honda HDS too. At least it works for me after struggling with reinstalling windows xp and try different HDS versions. The software looks pretty professional. I’ve never seen dealer’s. It’s probably identical. I can access EGR valve and other parameters and even do some bidirectional test. I’m going to take a trip this weekend and do some live data test since I just replaced my EGR valve on my Honda.

The software I downloaded is here:

It does require a lot of skills on computer operating system and drivers configuration.

Even that it’s not guaranteed to work.

The easiest and best option would be purchasing a cable specifically for Honda with the installation CD. With the success of my experiment. I have confidence with the xhorse 3 in 1 or other cheap Chinese brand for Honda HDS. My cable is specifically for Toyota I suspect. Because when I access the ABS system, HDS gives me message saying that there’s some communication issues with the interface. I assume there’s some protocols was not written in the cable’s chip. I certainly know the Launch Creader 123 can read my ABS. But, what do I know.

                Last tip:
Install these software under Windows xp 32 bit system. I tried on my Windows 10 64 bit, there’s no love. I wasted a lot of time on different operating systems, install and uninstall. I’m not sure Windows 7 32 bit, it didn’t work for me or I just don’t remember under time pressure to solve these problems.

I purchased Launch Creader 123 a week ago.

It doesn’t read my 2002 subaru ABS. It does read my 2001 Honday Odyssey ABS though.

I don’t know if I should purchase another $215 from Autel Max Pro.

I thought there’s some special scanner can read ABS only.

Based on the Subaru manual, 11 should be the start code.

I dont know what do you mean by self test.

So, certainly 23 and 51 you think. Thank you nightflyr.

How much is an ABS scanning cable for subaru? I don’t think there’s one.

                        Thank you for your info.

Would you please upload a large image? The one you uploaded is too small. I have a general idea which is which. But I would like to see it clearly.

I am planning to plug the smoke after the green cap(service something). Will the canister solenoid closed or open if the car key is not inserted to create a closed environment?

I forgot to mention. I am doing a EVAP system smoke test. I have a p0440 code.

                            Appreciate the suggestion.

Cleaning the tone ring is one of my plans. I will try to clean them as clean as possible. Do you think I can spray paint on the spindle where the mounting area since I’m in New England? Of course not the tone ring.

So, What is a press on fit? Does that require some special hydraulic device?
