Hi Flintiron. Never had the pleasure of replacing one before so this was a “learning experience” for me.

Hey there Antonio. Well, since i had to have the evap core replaced and the shop had the entire dash removed I thought it was a good time to replace all the dash light bulbs and heater core before they reinstalled everything since my truck has almost 300.000 miles on it. Now i can see my all of my gauges when i turn on my light switch at night. Feels good to be able to see them without using a small flashlight to see how much fuel i have in the tank lol. Also replace the horrible
Euro projection headlights with stock OEM’s. Found a pair of NEW headlights on eBay for $42.00 for the pair WITH free shipping. What a difference they make. I can actually see whats in front of me in the dark. Also found a pair of Westin step rails on Craigslist for $75.00 which im having installed by my friends at my local Meineke shop.

        Stuart.

Hey Firebird, drum brakes are a snap. I can do drum brakes all day long. The only thing you need to remember is the larger shoe goes to the rear and the smaller shoe goes to the front. don’t forget to use some white lithium or “backing plate lube” before you put the parts back onto the backing plate. there should be small flat spots where the grease goes. also put some onto the star adjuster threads.

thats a good idea. I think im gonna go out and purchase a Chilton or a Haynes service manual for my truck. That way i can have something to look at while im working on it. Since i bought this truck used, i have no service manuals for it at all.

what makes it worse is when you have the decal that shows 3 different ways the belt fits for 3 different motors but its so faded you cant read it LOL.

Oh the alt was very easy. Its on top of the motor next to the a/c compressor. 2 bolts and it came right out. The belt, well, thats a whole ‘nother animal, but a little bit of “patience” and a lot of choice 4 letter words and it finally got back on LOL.

Thanks for your reply AntonioCm, i’ll have to take a look into removing it sometime today, In the meantime, yesterday i had to replace the alternator and the serpentine belt. Removing the alt was the easy part, putting the new belt on was a lot of fun…….NOT, LOL.

Hey relative4. thank you for your reply to my question, but this particular truck you have shown here doesn’t have the same instrument cluster as my truck does. My fuel gauge is on the bottom left side of the cluster.

Hey nightflyer. thank you for your reply. The cables are clean and tight, the one ground cable that runs from the battery to the frame is also clean and tight. the other ground cable that runs from the battery down to the starter i can’t see because it runs behind the alternator. I’d have to crawl under the truck to inspect the ground cable thats attached to the starter. Right now, i just got back from the parts store with a NEW replacement battery and connected it, started the truck up and the volt meter went 1/3rd up then right back down to zero again. I have an appointment next Monday morning to bring the truck to an auto electric shop to have the entire electrical system checked out. If theres a problem, they’ll find it and fix it. in the meantime i’m afraid to drive this truck anywhere in fear i’ll get stuck again.

Good morning cap. i want to thank you for posting the photo of the tool. i was wondering if there was such a tool made to do this. im sure i’ll be able to find one now that i know what to look for.

                            regards,

Hey nightflyr. thank you very much for the diagram showing the adjustment locations. NOW i’ll be able to aim the bulbs where they’re suppose to be.

                              regards,

Good morning nightflyr. The low beam on the right side is aimed correctly while the high beam is burned out. The low beam on the left side is aimed down about 2′ in front of the truck while the high beam is aimed out towards the left side of the truck Somebody has these bulbs aimed in all crazy directions lol. i’ll most likely have to take it to a shop and have them re aim all 4 bulbs.

No offence taken. i just bought this truck last month and the low beam was already aiming low and it burned out about a week ago so I had to replace the bulb. The reason for the tape is because while I was trying to remove the housing to change the bulb, I accidently broke the one bolt that holds the outer part of the housing onto the support brace and used the aluminum tape in order to hold it tightly against the body. I have no idea who installed them or what brand of euro type housing it is. The right headlight housing is exactly the same as the left side as for fitment goes.
