I’ve been useing a block tester a lot lately to test for failed head gaskets. After a compression test you can do a leak down test also. There should be videos on all these tests on youtube.

We don’t do that many throttle body cleanings, but the ones we have done, haven’t needed a relearn or presented any problems. We use wynn’s throttle body cleaner and a tooth brush. Don’t sick your fingers in there if its electronic. I have herd recently the some models have a coating inside the throttle body that can be removed by cleaning. So the best advice is that if its not sticking than don’t clean it.

I have been in the biz a couple of years now. And I work in a full service shop at $15 per hour. I can get a lot of experience in my current shop. The dealership in a 30 min drive. In a town of higher income levels, so lots of VW/Audi, mercedes.

Usually its the opposite. Turning the heat on slows the overheat. Maybe a clogged heater core.

What have you already tested in the system?

I am currently useing a matco md1052 and its just ok. My coworkers all have Launch scan tools, I like them better. Lauch does the best job of manufacture coverage.

At some point your gonna have to weld. Personaly I don’t want to weld laying on my back. You may be at a higher welding skill level than me. IMO opinion your gonna need to get it up in the air as far as you safely can.

He could have broke some teeth inside the rack. If thats were the noise is coming from you’ll just have to replace it, there no rebuilding the rack and pinion.

My least favorite. Toyota camry rear struts. Besides removeing the back seat. You have to undone every abs wire holddown in the wheel well, otherwise as soon as you undone any of strut bolts the flex in the control arms is so long it will stretch and break the abs wire. Some of those camrys are $300 per wire per side.

I pick the S2000. I accually have a yellow one in the shop right now. I like working on them better, I like styling and the cockpit better. The power band is to high. Its not the cheaper way to go, the one in my shop broke a rim (along with several suspension parts), and a stock 16″ rim is $561 each.

I am looking for a Del Sol myself, because targa tops are just cool. 🙂

Get a cheap stethoscope, pull out the rod, and run the hose around the whole exhaust system, this will amplify any leaks that you can’t see. If you have exhaust gas in the cabin there has to be a leak somewhere.

sometimes flushing the tranny when it been that long between services can do more harm than good. Especially since the fluid as clean signs of being used up. If your not prepared to put in a new transmission, I would leave it alone and be gental on it. If your already planning on a new transmission, then I would drain and fill it a couple times.

In the cases I have been able to take the ball joint apart, the grease was almost completely gone or dry. In all the cases I believe water was the cause. Everything was a rusty color inside the boot. Being metal to metal would make sense but I would think there would be movement, and I don’t remember there being any movement.

Be careful with any strut compressor that isn’t attched to a wall. I shot one of those clamp-ons into the wall of my uncles garage. Since I’ve done that I would buy a clam shell style one if I was in a pinch. Save the clamp-ons for on-car apalications
