Should probably check your fuel filter while you are at it.

Are you looking to run the vehicle as an electric with an onboard Diesel to recharge batteries like the Chevy volt or are looking to have it run on electric and have the Diesel assist the electric motor like a Prius?

[quote=”no_common_sense” post=155184]Oil sending units go bad under the intakes of Kia Sorentos with 3.5 liter engines and it allows a hefty leak that looks like the engine has blown out a main seal. It also destroyed some furry woodland creature’s entire stock of kibble.

Iirc fuel pressure should be about 12lbs for that vehicle.

With the lean codes and the sputtering I would investigate the fuel system. Check fuel pressure and if you can look at the fuel injectors to see if they are spraying correctly. I have seen everything from a broken wire to an injector or the pig tails have deteriorated causing a bad connection. Since this is a tbi engine you can look down into the throttle body and see if they are spraying fuel.,

Check out golf carts. Pretty much all the R&D is complete and you can borrow the ideas. The biggest issue will be battery placement and weight if you want any decent run time from the electric side of things.

Have you checked the rear diff for worn bearings or excessive backlash?

It’s not so much the additives as it is the octane rating that is important. The reason you need to run premium fuel in the Acura has to do with the compression ratio of that engine. A higher octane rating keeps your engine from pre ignition. In other words if the octane rating is too low the fuel will combust due to the pressure it is under instead of igniting from the spark plug.

I always dread going out to bring in minivans. Those things have the worst amount of stuff spilled or left in them than any other vehicles I work on.

And to ChrisKaye I appreciate customers that clean out their cars for service it really does help us to do a better job. How am I going to give a good road test when I am trying not to vomit?

That is normal. The reason why it does that is because when you turn the wheel you are also moving the piston in the rack which is also moving fluid. With the pump off there is no where for the fluid to go except out of the top of the reservoir.

The 42 code could indicate an open or short to the ignition module or the ignition control is not working properly

The code 44 could be indicating a lean condition from a vacuum leak or it could have a broken wire or just not working anymore even a bad map sensor could cause a code 44 to light up the cel

On the 42 I would check wiring harness to see if anything is broken and then test the module to see if it is performing correctly.
On the 44 I would check for vacuum leaks and wires for voltage before condemning the 02 sensor.
