I used to subscribe to him but however over the time I kinda realized he has some main themes.

1. He hates modern cars. Yes yes I get it but modern electronics have done a lot of good things in helping diagnosing problems and taking some the voodoo magic out of it when trying to find that broken vacuum line that is more complex than the human ciriculatory system.
2. He hates European ( Namely German) makes
3. He cannot take constructive criticism
4. He glosses over some the more important things about doing certain repairs.

I personally think he should retire. He just too bitter and salty and kinda in a way berates techs/mechanics in showing how a repair is done by making it “easy” which kinda berates the effort put in by techs.

It kinda depends on the type of sports car. Like Grand Touring or something like an exotic

For a Supercar/Exotic: Honda/Acura NSX First Generation. I’ve personally always liked the look of these cars. They just had the right lines and handled extremely well. Definitely a car you could take on a road course style track and really do well with.

For a more pedestrian sports car I like the Nissan/Datsun 300zx. To me this car is what you could afford on a good working mans salary that wasn’t the Skyline GT-R or something else. You know this was a Z car when you saw it.

Last but not least would be the Dodge Viper and Ford GT. Both cars are what American Supercars should be. Powerful good looking Loud no qualms about being elegant or trying to look “Italian or Japanese”.

I like Corvettes too but to be honest you seen one you kinda seen them all. pretty much c1-c3 looked different for each iteration. but beyond that the c-4 through current look all the same to me except for minor styling cues that indicate the car was from the 80’s 90’s or 00’s or 10’s. So ya just meh cool but meh.

This is quite an easy list so i’ll make it simple

1. Tires. Check to make sure they are in good condition and have plenty of tread left and aren’t 4ish years old
2. Change your Oil and have your Battery checked. Replace if older than 5 years old
3. If your service manual or owner’s manual says you need a service done near to where it would be recommended mile wise go ahead and get that done now. Things like Coolant, Timing chain/belt, Valve adjustments(I thinks that’s mostly honda’s though) Belts, Hoses etc.
4. Check your spare tire and replace it if its old and make sure its filled up to its proper spec.
5. Invest in a Lug t-handle style wrench and a small compact jack. (I hate most of the scissor ones that come with new cars)
6. Pack yourself some work gloves or at least some gloves you don’t mind getting dirty in case you need to change your tire or fix something on the engine.
7. If you can swing it buy yourself a 20-40pc tool set you can get at harbor freight. http://www.harborfreight.com/hand-tools/hand-tool-sets/52-piece-socket-set-35338.html would be good in a pinch.
8. First aid kit.
9. Also pack a tire inflator. For every 10 degrees of temp you lose some air pressure in your tires. I think this applies to elevation as well like something 2-3k feet or something
10. Duct Tape I’ve seen Duct tape hold a busted hose long enough to get to an autoparts store. Gorilla Tape is some good shit or get Gaffers tape.
11. Last but not least pack some snacks/drinks in a cooler.

That’s really About all I can think of at this time. Just remember when you come back from your trip you prolly have to the change your oil again. Most modern cars I’ve seen it asked about 4-10k miles in a lot of owners manuals.

I’d stick with the Honda over the Toyota. Especially since you live in Northern Virginia. You live near the DC area or something? Cause while stick is fun to drive its not fun to be constantly shifting in stop and go traffic. Also Convertibles in winter ain’t fun either.

In my opinion you got a few options.

1. Keeping the celica and sell the honda
2. Keep the Honda and sell the Celcia.
3. Sell both cars and get a newer or better shape one.
4. Sell either car and use that money to fix whatever you choose to keep.

I knew when you was talking to your dad in that ECTG1 video you had something you told him but was vague about it. I figured it was gonna be a Turbo or a supercharger. Kinda makes me sad that you are gonna go with Carb instead of EFI for it but hell either way its gonna rock! Also btw Youtube is being asshole again with not showing videos in sub boxes again.

Ya. These are pre obdII cars so you are gonna have to find a shop that specializes in tuning older cars. Cause if i recall these aren’t as simple as reflashing the ECU but having to replace a chip or a set of chips in the car. There are places that still do it. You might still wanna look around for the various tuner shops in your area. They might have an old tech that’s had a 20+ years of experience willing to do it for you. Also you can always try the various Honda/Acura forums on the internet as they might know someone in your area or close to it. Also if you aren’t having any luck. Look around for the local import tuners groups in your area. They might know of someone as well.

If all else fails. Go to a local drag strip on test and tune night. look for someone with a similar honda/acura of your vintage and ask them.
Crown Vics and Mercury Grand Marquis generally go pretty high mileage and can be reasonable.
Really just about any body on frame car is a solid choice. whether it’d be Ford or GM.

To be honest I’d stick a similar engine from ford in that van (I aint that brand loyal douchebag either) Cause it’s gonna be a lot of fab work plus wiring and all that fun stuff. Those vans are cramped as balls to work in and plus your having to do Fab work. Why would you wanna do it the hard way when it would be easier to just stick a Ford engine in there and have every wiring harness plug in and stuff like that.

I’d be more apt if it was me too go the easier route and stick the same engine it had in there. We aren’t trying to discourage you we are trying to tell you the reality. Cause I am willing to bet a few people on here have projects they started with good intentions and just never finished and they just sit for years on in wasting space and then eventually end up in a junkyard or sold for scrap.

Maybe a Subaru ej-20 with a Turbo might. Especially if you was willing to give up a lower spun Turbo for a higher spun one. Assuming you stay in the turbo’s rpm boost range
I was going to suggest the same vehicle
Ya I was thinking something along the lines of an impreza or wrx. I’d replace the normal subaru turbo with a higher spun one but since we are doing high RPM the lag would be a non issue because you’d be in its range all the time. The EJ-20 engine is 4 cylinder and pretty much the basis for the mid 2000’s sti cars.

I also had the thought of a newer Ford Focus with the Eco boost engines in it too but that would be budget overkill. Also a Lancer Evo would do well here too but the problem with those is they aren’t as forgiving as the honda or the subaru’s are about being abused.

I have a few myself. Nissan Juke. They are ugly as hell along with the Scion xB. I didn’t mind the aztek all that much but by far my least favourite car now is the KL body Jeep Cherokee’s. I hate the look of those things. It looks like someone put a lift kit on a damn minivan. Jeeps are known for their pedestrian boxy look. Not this crap.

I’d go with the Camry too. As you cannot throw a stone in a parking lot and not find one. Heh. Also the parts tend to be cheaper for them because of the sheer amount of them still on the road today. Just make sure you get one that has a straight body and not been rusted to all hell and back. I’ve seen some Camry’s with really bad holes in the floor pans.

As the other poster has said get the one the 4-banger. It will be cheaper on gas and a lot easier to repair as it won’t be as cramped in the engine bay.

I have some more engines I like as well. Mainly either for historical purposes or there innovation or design.

Ford Flat-head V8. I think this was one the first engines used in hot rods.
Mazda Wankel Engines. I love the Rotary engine. So fun to look at and watch
Ford Eco-boost. I’ve been as of late fascinated by these engines. namely the 4 cylinders. I can’t believe how much power and fuel economy Ford’s been able to get out these things. It’s awesome that these things can whip the pants off some the bigger v8s now.

I do have a few suggestions for you. One you can always look at Craigslist or autotrader or any of those other sites. Second it call around to the used dealerships in the area.

Now this third suggestion is bit of a stretch but I have heard of people getting wheelchair equipped vehicles this way. Call around to the various medical transport places in your area or the local dial a ride service by the government. Sometimes they do have stuff that is just too old or they need to sell because of some reason like they bought a new one or had to let go of some drivers for funding cuts.

Also there is the last suggestion of calling social services for help too on looking for one.

I am not 100% on the 318’s(Which is what the 5.2L is in mopar nut speak) and that era of Dodge trucks but I do remember sometimes there was on the frame rail too. Sometimes it would go up into the engine bay too.
